Thar Education Alliance in collaboration with Indigo Textiles, UNDP (SDG Unit) and District Education Department Tharparkar distributed 80 bicycles to deserving girl students of Government High School Malahore Veena who are facing transport challenges in their attendance. There are obstacles.

Providing bicycles to these 80 deserving girl students:

Addressing the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Thar Education Alliance expressed concern over the current situation where more than 0.3 million children are not going to school in Thar. He highlighted that in many areas the number of female students is particularly high due to schools being far away from their villages and other issues. Providing bicycles to these 80 deserving girl students is not just a pilot activity but a strategic initiative to address these challenges. By doing so, the initiative aims not only to break social taboos but also to ensure regular attendance in schools.

Tharparkar district suffers from one of the lowest female literacy rates in the country, exacerbated by factors such as long distances to schools, cultural barriers and security concerns. he said.

Recognizing the sensitivity of the situation, Thar Education Alliance (TEA) and Indigo Textiles have joined forces in a joint effort to address this critical issue, Shivani added. With a shared commitment to social development and a deep understanding of the transformative power of education, this partnership aims to break down barriers and pave the way for seamless access to education for girls in Tharparkar. Through the “Education to Paddling” project, they are embarking on a journey towards empowering girls and promoting a culture of learning in the heart of Tharparkar.

Assistant Commissioner Mithi, Riaz Ali Shaikh highlighted that the problem of out-of-school children is a major challenge in Tharparkar. However, the government is actively addressing this issue through reforms and policies. He appreciated the efforts of Thar Education Alliance and emphasized that their initiative marks progress towards achieving SDG4.

Krishna Sharma, a professional in the development sector, emphasized that empowering girls leads to self-reliance and inclusion in decision-making processes. This initiative not only increases enrollment but also addresses retention issues, especially among post-primary girls.

District Education Officer Narsingh Bhil along with DSP Waqas Durrani, Sushil Malani, HM Satramdas, former HM Ramchand Shivani, and other members of the local community participated in the activity. He expressed his support for this initiative, recognizing the importance of providing bicycles to girl students of five different schools in Malahore Veena.

The students who received the bicycles expressed their gratitude and said that learning how to ride a bicycle has empowered them and given them confidence. He vowed to continue his studies with dedication. Additionally, the community emphasized the need for transportation for girls from other areas.
