The School Education Department (SED) in the province is facing a shortage of 115,000 teachers. The last major recruitment of school teachers was in 2018 under the Muslim League (N) government.

During the tenure of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf8, about 400 to 500 appointments were made, mainly in two districts: Murree and Makanwali.

The PTI government introduced a recruitment process similar to that of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).

The PTI government also introduced College Tachingo Interns (CTIZ) to fill up the vacant vacancies in colleges and advised the present administration to continue this initiative to meet the shortage. Recent graduates were eligible to apply for CTI posts earning a monthly salary of Rs 25,000.

According to SED sources, the current government is considering recruiting 30,000 school teachers on visiting basis. They will be paid based on the number of lectures.

The last major recruitment of school teachers was done in 2018 during the PML-N government and around 400 to 500 appointments were made only in the two districts of Murree and Mianwali during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf regime.

Daily Wage Model

Punjab Government Policy

In 2022, the Punjab government had announced a policy to grant early retirement to all government school teachers above the age of 55 after 25 years of service.
